 Muharram 2021

The first month of the Islamic calendar observes Muḥarram, which is one of the four sacred months of the year when people rejoice and celebrate this holy festival. Muharram is known as the second holiest month after Ramadan. The tenth day of Muharram is known as Ashura. The word Muharram signifies ‘forbidden’. Muslims observe a fast on these days and pray to Allah for his blessings. This festival is celebrated in remembrance of the sacrifice of Imam Ali Hussain to protect Islam. Muslims greet each other and give sweets to mark the occasion. Muharram moves from year to year when compared with the Gregorian calendar.
