I am strong, with lot of hope: Pele posts Instagram message after hospital says Brazil great is stable

Legendary footballer Pele took to Instagram on Sunday morning and shared a new hospital report which said he was stable and responding to treatment. Pele was admitted to a Sao Paulo hospital last week to re-evaluate his cancer treatment.

By LAKSHY DREAM FOUNDATION GLOBAL NEWS Web Desk: A new hospital update on Sunday said Brazil great Pele is in stable condition and has been responding well to treatment for respiratory infection. The update comes hours after a newspaper report in Sau Paulo said Pele stopped responding to chemotherapy and was moved to palliative care amid his battle against cancer.

Moments later, Pele also took to Instagram to say he is "strong" and following his treatment "with lot of hope". The legendary footballer also urged fans to keep following Brazil at the FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

"My friends, I want to keep everyone calm and positive. I'm strong, with a lot of hope and I follow my treatment as usual. I want to thank the entire medical and nursing team for all the care I have received," Pele said.

"I have a lot of faith in God and every message of love I receive from you all over the world keeps me full of energy. And watch Brazil in the World Cup too!

"Thank you so much for everything," he added.

Newspaper Folha de S.Paulo reported Pele was moved to palliative care and was being treated only for symptoms such as pain and shortness of breath. It also said Pele had general swelling and shortness of breath when was admitted to the hospital last week to re-evaluate his cancer treatment. The new update from Sao Paulo's Albert Einstein Hospital said 82-year-old Pele also responded well to treatment for a respiratory infection diagnosed this week and his condition has not worsened in the last 24 hours. His manager, family members and the hospital have not confirmed that information, according to news agency Reuters.

He had a tumor removed from his colon in September 2021 and has been receiving hospital care on a regular basis.

"He is still undergoing treatment and remains in stable condition," the medical staff said.

MESSAGES OF SUPPORT

The former Brazil, Santos and New York Cosmos forward posted a picture of his face projected on a building in Qatar, where the World Cup is being held, next to a message saying "Get well soon".

A sign with the same message was displayed by Brazilian fans at the Lusail Stadium on Friday ahead of the national team's 1-0 defeat against Cameroon.

Notably, Pele received messages of support from football stars at the FIFA World Cup.

France star Kylian Mbappe took to social media to wish the best to Pele while England captain Harry Kane also wished the legendary footballer on behalf of the entire England side on the eve of their Round of 16 match against Senegal.
