Speaking about the row over Sanatana Dharma, AAP leader Raghav Chaddha said that remarks by "small leaders"
AAP leader Raghav Chadha referred to Tamil Nadu minister Udhayanidhi Stalin as a 'small leader' while talking about the Sanatan Dharma row
Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Raghav Chadha on Tuesday reacted to Tamil Nadu minister Udhayanidhi Stalin's statement on Sanatana Dharma, saying that remarks by some "small leader of any party" cannot be seen as the stand of the Opposition bloc INDIA.
"I am from Sanatan Dharma. I condemn and oppose such statements. Such kind of statements should not be made. One should stay away from making such remarks on any religion. We should respect all religions," Raghav Chadha told news agency PTI.
"Some leader from some party makes such remarks... it doesn't mean it is the statement of the alliance. The alliance has been formed for raising big issues like price rise, unemployment facing the country. The statement made by some small leader, while standing in a district in a state, is not the official stand of the alliance," he added.
On September 2, Udhayanidhi Stalin, the Tamil Nadu youth welfare minister, said that Sanatana Dharma is against social justice and equality.
"Few things cannot be opposed, that should be abolished only. We can't oppose dengue, mosquitoes, malaria or Corona. We have to eradicate this. That's how we have to eradicate Sanatana," he said while speaking at 'Sanatana Abolition Conference'.
Several members of the Opposition bloc have distanced themselves from DMK leader Udhayanidhi Stalin's comments, which have triggered a heavy backlash from the BJP.
HOW OTHER OPPOSITION LEADERS REACTED
West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee had said that Udhayanidhi Stalin was a "junior and should avoid comments that may hurt people".
"We should not be involved in any matter which may hurt any section of people. Maybe he is a junior and so he may not know that. From my side, I don't know from which vision they have said this," Mamata Banerjee had said.
Meanwhile, the Congress had said that the party respects all religions and castes in response to the Sanatan Dharma remark.
BJP'S REACTION
After Stalin's remarks on September 2, BJP IT cell head Amit Malviya, in a post on X (formerly Twitter) had claimed that the DMK leader's comments on Sanatana Dharma was a call for "genocide" of 80 per cent of the population that follows it.
In response to this, Udhayanidhi Stalin said that his comments were misconstrued and falsely portrayed as a call for genocide.
"My words were twisted and it was falsely claimed that I called for genocide. To be honest, genocide is occurring in Manipur, where the BJP has been ruling for the past five months, with hundreds of people killed," he said.
