Hockey: India go down to China in women's semis
India lost 0-4 versus China in the women's hockey semi-final at the Asian Games 2023. While the hosts advanced to the final, the Indian women's hockey team will play the bronze medal match. India also did not secure a direct Olympic qualification berth.
Zhong Jiaqi (25'), Zou Meirong (40') and Gu Bingfeng (60') scored from penalty corners for China while Liang Meiyu (55') netted the only field goal. India, however, failed to convert any of their penalty corners.
The Indian women's hockey team will play either Japan or the Republic of Korea in the bronze medal clash on Saturday, October 7 at 1:30 PM IST.
Sport climbing: Four Indians make the lead and boulder semis
Indian climbers had a successful outing in the lead and boulder qualification rounds today, with all four advancing to the semi-final.
Aman Verma ranked eighth after both qualification rounds, scoring 118.8 - 64.8 in boulder and 54.0 in lead. Bharath Stephen Pereira Kamath, meanwhile, qualified 13th with 69.7 boulder and 28.1 lead points. The men's semi-finals will be held tomorrow at 6:30 AM IST.
Saniya Farooque Shaikh and Shivani Charak finished 17th and 18th, respectively, in the women's lead and boulder qualification round. They will climb again in the semi-finals on Saturday, October 7 at 10:50 AM IST.
Kabaddi: Indian men's team beat Japan, semis clash set vs Pakistan
The Indian men's kabaddi team won 56-30 against Japan, affirming the top spot in Group A with four wins in four matches. India inflicted five all-outs while the Japanese raiders relied heavily on bonus points, collecting 16. Japan, meanwhile, were not able to wipe out the Indian team on a single occasion in the match.
The seven-time champions India will go up against Pakistan, who finished second in Group B, in the semi-finals tomorrow at 12:30 PM IST. While the semi-final winners will make the gold medal match, the losing teams will bag bronze medals.
Archery: Men's compound team clinch gold medal
The Indian men's compound team beat the Republic of Korea 235-230 in the final, reclaiming their title at the Asian Games 2023. India had also won the title in the 2014 edition. The Republic of Korea, however, had pipped the Indian team in the 2018 final.
