Israel-Hamas war news LIVE updates: The death toll in the ongoing conflict between Israel and Gaza crossed the 1,100 mark on Monday. The war ensued after Hamas militants launched a barrage of over 3,000 rockets from Gaza into Israel on Saturday. In retaliation, the Israel Defense Forces initiated strikes within Gaza. As the “long and difficult war” continued to intensify over the past 24 hours, the Palestinian militant organization Islamic Jihad on Monday said they have detained 30 Israeli nationals in Gaza. The Israeli military, meanwhile, said over 100,000 reservists have heeded the call to duty from their side as the war escalates. At least three American citizens have been killed in the conflict, while France's Foreign Ministry officially confirmed the death of one French citizen. Ukraine's foreign ministry has acknowledged the death of two of its nationals within Israel, while a toll of at least 10 Nepali students has been reported as having lost their lives. In a gesture of support to Israel, the United States has announced its intent to deploy an aircraft carrier strike group to the Eastern Mediterranean, reinforcing its commitment to the region. Ireland asks EU to clarify legal basis for suspending aid to Palestine

Ireland requested the European Commission to clarify the legal basis for its announcement to suspend aid to Palestine, reported Reuters. "Our understanding is that there is no legal basis for a unilateral decision of this kind by an individual Commissioner and we do not support a suspension of aid", a spokesperson for the Irish Foreign Ministry was quoted as saying by Reuters.


'Deeply distressed': UN after Israel announces plans 'total blockade' on Gaza

United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said on Monday he was "deeply distressed" by an announcement that Israel will initiate a complete siege of the Gaza Strip following an attack by the Palestinian Islamist group Hamas over the weekend.

"I am deeply distressed by today's announcement that Israel will initiate a complete siege of the Gaza Strip, nothing allowed in – no electricity, food, or fuel," Guterres said.

Hamas to begin executing captive Israelis for every unwarned bombing

The militant group Hamas said it will begin executing a captive Israeli civilian in return for any new Israeli bombing of civilian houses that occur without pre-warning, reported Reuters. 



More than 100 taken captive by Hamas: Israeli foreign minister

Israeli Foreign Minister Eli Cohen said more than 100 people have been taken captive by Hamas over the weekend. "Right now, there is more than 700 people that (were) murdered, that (were) slaughtered. More than 100 people that (were) taken captive," Cohen was quoted as saying by Reuters. 


UN chief Antonio Guterres calls for end to attacks, release of hostages

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres spoke on the ongoing conflict between Israel and the Hamas militant group and called for an end to attacks and the release of all hostages. He said he condemns the "abhorrent attacks by Hamas and others" against Israeli towns and villages in Gaza. 

Guterres also said he is "deeply concerned" by the announcement which was made earlier that Israel will initiate a "complete seizure" of the Gaza strip. 






List of airlines which have suspended flights to and from Tel Aviv

Major international airlines have suspended their flight services to or from Tel Aviv after the Hamas' attack which began on Saturday. These include:



  1. On Sunday, US airlines United Airlines, Delta Air Lines and American Airlines suspended direct flights to and from Tel Aviv. 
  2. In Europe, Air France and Finland's Finnair suspended direct flights.
  3. Britain's easyJet halted flights to Tel Aviv on Sunday and Monday, and said it would adjust the timings of flights over the next few days.
  4. Hungarian budget carrier Wizz Air canceled flights to and from Tel Aviv until further notice.
  5. The Lufthansa group canceled flights to and from Tel Aviv through Monday.
  6. Portugal's TAP suspended flights up until Monday and offered refunds or rescheduling at no additional cost.
  7. Virgin Atlantic said it would continue to run some flights but that customers could rebook or request a refund until October 15.
  8. Hainan Airlines, the only Chinese airline to fly between China and Israel, and other airlines flying from Hong Kong and South Korea, canceled flights between Tel Aviv and Shanghai on Monday.
  9. Air India cancelled its flights to and from Tel Aviv till October 14. 


Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu denies Egypt's claims of warnings against Hamas

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office said a report which said Egyptian intelligence chief Abbas Kamel warned him about an “unusual, terrible operation” days before Hamas’s attack on Israel is “total fake news.”

"No preliminary message came from Egypt and the prime minister has not spoken or met with the Egyptian intelligence chief since the establishment of the government - neither indirectly nor directly. This is a complete fake news," said Netanyahu’s office. 

The report published on Ynet news site said Egypt’s Intelligence Minister General Abbas Kamel called Netanyahu only ten days before the attack by Hamas, saying the Gazans were likely to do “something unusual, a terrible operation”. 


Turkish President dials Palestinian President Abbas to discuss Israel conflict

The Turkish presidency said Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the president of Turkey spoke to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas on the phone to discuss the developments in Israel. 



Mexico to send 2 aircraft to evacuate 300 citizens in Israel

Mexico's President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador said 300 Mexican citizens in Israel have signed up to leave the country. Two aircraft will be sent to Israel to carry out evacuations, he added. 

The President said three Mexicans remain missing and the government is communicating with their relatives and added, "Our diplomats are acting to protect Mexicans."



Hezbollah member killed in Israeli bombing in southern Lebanon

A member of Hezbollah, a Lebanese political party and militant group, was killed in an Israeli bombing in southern Lebanon, sources close to the party told Reuters. 


Gaza hospital out of service due to Israeli airstrikes: Palestinian health ministry

The Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza said the services at the only functioning hospital in Gaza's Beit Hanoun neighborhood were suspended due to continuous Israeli airstrikes, reported CNN. The health ministry said extensive damage caused by continuous Israeli airstrikes blocked the medical teams’ ability to enter or exit the building. 

The ministry claimed nine ambulances had been targeted since Saturday.


Palestinian 'Al Quds Brigades' claim responsibility for attack at Lebanon-Israel border

The Al Quds Brigades, the armed wing of the 'Palestinian Islamic Jihad', claimed responsibility for an attack at the Lebanon-Israel border earlier on Monday, said a report by Reuters. The attack on the border was part of the wider Al-Aqsa Storm operation, said the group, adding that seven "zionist soldiers" had been injured in the operation.



Israeli civilians in towns near Lebanese border ordered to stay at home

The Israel Defence Forces has issued instructions asking Israeli civilians in towns near the Lebanese border to remain in their homes. This comes after the Israeli Air Force said its combat helicopters are currently attacking the Lebanese territory. 



Dozens of planes attacked 130 Hamas targets in last 3 hours, says Israeli Air Force

The Israeli Air Force said that it attacked 130 targets in Hamas in "just the last three hours using dozens of planes". It added that the focus of the attacks were Beit Hanon, Sajaya, Al Furkan and Rimal.

Israeli Air Force planes have been carrying out "extensive attacks along the length and breadth of the Gaza Strip wreaking havoc on Hamas terrorists", it added. 



Arab League foreign ministers to meet on Wednesday to discuss Israel-Palestine conflict

Arab League foreign ministers will meet on Wednesday to discuss ways "to stop the Israeli aggression" against the Gaza Strip, the pan-Arab group said in a statement. The session was scheduled in response to a Palestinian request, it added.

The armed wing of the Hamas militant group said it fired a rocket towards Jerusalem in response to the bombing of civilian houses in the Gaza strip. 


Second French citizen dead in Israel

The French Foreign Ministry confirmed the death of a second French citizen in Israel following Hamas’ surprise attack that began on Saturday. The foreign ministry had previously confirmed the death of one citizen. It has not provided details about those killed or the circumstances of their deaths.


Israel attacks Lebanese territory amid reports of 'armed infiltration'

The Israel Air Force said its combat helicopters are currently attacking the Lebanese territory. This comes after the Israeli military said it killed at least two gunmen who crossed the border from Lebanon. 

In a statement, the Israeli military said its soldiers "killed a number of armed suspects that infiltrated into Israeli territory from Lebanese territory". It did not elaborate on the number.

Afterwards, a Hezbollah official told Reuters that the group had not mounted any operation into Israel. Meanwhile, Lebanese Prime Minister-designate Najib Mikati said Lebanon does not wish to be drawn into the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas, according to local media.


Thailand to get hostages freed, set to fly migrant workers home from Israel

Thailand said on Monday it is working with Jordan, Egypt and Malaysia to secure the release of its citizens taken hostage during a shock Hamas attack on Israel, with over 1,000 Thai migrant workers caught in the conflict looking to return home. A dozen Thai nationals were killed, nine wounded and 11 more kidnapped, Thailand's government said, when Hamas militants burst across the border fence from Gaza on a rampage that killed at least 700 Israelis.
