The death toll in the war increased to 1,600 on both sides. On the war’s third day, Israel was still finding bodies from Hamas’ stunning weekend attack on southern Israeli towns. Palestine’s Health Ministry said Israeli bombs killed 704 Palestinians, including 143 children and 105 women, with 4,000 wounded in Gaza, while the Israeli Health Ministry reports 900 deaths and 2,600 injuries after Hamas attack.

 


Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that the country "is at war" and that they didn’t want this war. “Israel is at war. We didn’t want this war. It was forced upon us in the most brutal and savage way. But though Israel didn’t start this war, Israel will finish it.In a joint statement, late on Monday (local time), the United States, France, Germany, Italy, and the United Kingdom pledged to remain united and coordinated to support Israel.


 

 President Biden’s Twitter account shared the joint statement with the caption, “The United States, France, Germany, Italy, and the United Kingdom will remain united and coordinated – together as allies and as common friends to Israel – to ensure Israel can defend itself.”

Cooperation with Palestinian authority should continue: EU top diplomat

High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell said cooperation with Palestinian authorities should continue and added that efforts should be made to make sure there is no "leakage of support to terrorist organisations"


 


Israeli defence minister to attend Nato meeting

 

Israeli Defence Minister Yoav Gallant is expected to take part in a meeting of Nato defence ministers via videoconference on Thursday, a Western official told Reuters. The session with Gallant was added following Hamas' attack on Israel, the official added.

Turkish Airlines halted its flights to Israel until further notice due to the latest developments in the country, a company spokesperson said in a statement posted on X, formerly Twitter.

 


Israel's Parliament to state guarantees for providing war risk insurance

Israel's parliamentary finance committee said on Tuesday it would debate on Thursday the approval of state guarantees for providing war risk insurance for Israeli airlines.

Due to the outbreak of war between Israel and the Palestinian militant group Hamas over the weekend, the insurance companies insuring flag carrier El Al Airlines, Israir and Arkia have said that terms of their policies indicated that within seven days of notification, insurance companies are entitled to cancel insurance policies.


 


In order to maintain flights, the government has asked the finance committee to provide insurance companies a state guarantee of $5 billion to cover their obligations and costs for war risk policies.

Israeli Air Force says 4 out of 15 rockets from Lebanon intercepted

"Following the initial report regarding launches in northern Israel, approximately 15 rockets were launched from Lebanese territory. The IAF Aerial Defense Array successfully intercepted four rocket launches. 10 launches fell in open areas," Israeli Air Force said.

"A combat helicopter attacked another observation post of the Hezbollah terrorist organization. A short time ago a combat helicopter attacked a Hezbollah observation post after anti-tank fire was fired from Lebanese territory at a military vehicle in the Avivim area," Israeli Air Force added.

President Abdel Fattah el-Sissi of Egypt said Tuesday the ongoing escalation between Israel and Palestinian militant groups in Gaza “is very serious,” warning of repercussions on the region’s “security and stability.”

Six rockets were fired into northern Israel: Lebanese official

A Lebanese security official said six rockets were fired from southern Lebanon into northern Israel on Tuesday evening.

The officials told news agency AP it was not immediately clear who fired the rockets from the area of the Lebanese southern village of Qlaileh. A statement from UNIFIL, the UN peacekeeping force in south Lebanon, also confirmed the rocket fire and urged “everyone to exercise restraint at this critical time.”

Palestinians in Gaza say Israeli bombardment has been so heavy they feel they are living their own "Nakba," the Arabic word for catastrophe that refers to the 1948 war of Israel's creation that led to their mass dispossession.

"This is our 1948. It's the same thing. It's another Nakba, "Radwan Abu al-Kass, a boxing instructor and father of three boys told news agency Reuters after his five-storey house in the al-Rimal district had been destroyed in bombardment on Monday night.



Sweden halts development aid to Palestinians

Sweden has temporarily halted development aid to Palestinian territories following a surprise attack by Hamas militants on Israel over the weekend, Development Minister Johan Forssell told a news conference on Tuesday.

European Union foreign ministers are meeting on Tuesday to work out divisions among its 27 members over whether to continue aid payments to Palestinians a day after the European Commission backtracked on an announcement suspending all such aid.

Sweden's decision followed Denmark's temporary suspension of development aid to Palestinians following a surprise attack by Hamas militants on Israel over the weekend, Ritzau news agency reported on Tuesday, citing a Danish minister.


At least 9 Latin Americans dead, 25 missing after Hamas struck Israel

As per reports, at least 9 Latin Americans have been killed and 25 others are missing following offensives launched by the Hamas Group the preceding weekend. The foreign ministry of Peru announced on Tuesday that one of its citizens had died in the fierce incursion in Israel while three others had been missing. 


Separately, seven Argentinians have been killed in Israel, while 15 are reported missing, as per Argentina's foreign ministry. The numbers followed an alert by Colombia's foreign ministry that two of its nationals had been missing since Monday evening.

Hamas' rocket strikes Israeli city of Ashkelon

Terrorist organisation Hamas targeted the Israeli city of Ashkelon on Tuesday in a fresh salvo of air strikes. 



The rocket attack towards the southern coastal city of  Ashkelon followed a warning issued by the Hamas Group that it would strike the city at around 5 pm. No immediate reports of fatalities and damages surfaced after Hamas struck Ashkelon this evening. 


Israel Hamas war: Barrage of rockets fired from south Lebanon, say Israeli forces

The Israeli army has blocked one of the roads near Yiftah kibbutz near the border with Lebanon after three security sources told Reuters that a salvo of rockets was fired on Tuesday from southern Lebanon towards Israel. As per reports, six people have been killed on the border with Lebanon since Hamas launched an attack on the south of Israel on October 7.

"A rocket recently fell near a mosque in Israel. Hamas terrorists are targeting and trying to murder as many innocents as possible. They must be held responsible for their war crimes," Israel's foreign ministry shared on X, formerly Twitter. 


Ending life-essential aid to Palestine 'completely wrong': Germany

German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock said on Tuesday that ending humanitarian aid to the Palestinian territories in light of a recent violent escalation would be "completely wrong".

Speaking ahead of a meeting of EU foreign ministers to resolve divisions over whether to continue aid payments to Palestinians, Baerbock said "it would be completely wrong now to stop vital humanitarian aid to the civilian population". "Millions of people, including many children, in the Palestinian territories, depend on us for food, water and medicine," she added.

Gaza conflict is economic shock 'we don't need': World Bank chief

 World Bank President Ajay Banga said on Tuesday that the Israel-Gaza conflict is an unnecessary global economic shock that will make it harder for central banks to achieve soft landings in many economies if it spreads.

"It's a humanitarian tragedy and it's an economic shock we don't need," Banga told Reuters on the sidelines of the World Bank-International Monetary Fund annual meetings in Morocco. Central banks were "beginning to feel a little more confident that there was an opportunity for a soft landing, and this kind of just makes it harder," Banga said.
