Israel Hamas war: US President Joe Biden reached Israel on Wednesday, beginning a visit to show solidarity with the people of the country in the aftermath of the terrorist attack by Hamas. Descending from the plane amid a large security contingent, Biden embraced Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and President Isaac Herzog on the tarmac. However, Biden had to abruptly scrap his trip to Jordan after the Palestinian authorities cancelled the summit following a huge explosion at a hospital in Gaza, which killed hundreds of civilians. US President Joe Biden on Wednesday landed in war-torn Israel, where he met Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Hours after an explosion killed nearly 500 people at a hospital in Gaza, Biden told Netanyahu that the explosion appeared not to have been caused by Israel. However, Biden also added there were "a lot of people out there" who weren’t sure what caused the blast.
The Hamas-run Gaza Health Ministry said an Israeli airstrike caused the destruction. The Israeli military denied involvement and blamed a misfired rocket from the Palestinian Islamic Jihad, another militant group. Meanwhile, another hospital in the southern Gaza city of Rafah said it received an order to evacuate, even after Israel told residents they could take refuge in the city.
Biden was earlier scheduled to visit Jordan after his Israel visit. However, his four-way summit scheduled for Wednesday was called off.
