Israeli forces struck Syrian airports in Damascus, Aleppo: Report

Israeli forces struck Syrian airports in Damascus and Aleppo in two simultaneous attacks on Thursday, as per reports.

Israel launched simultaneous air strikes against two international airports in Syria on Thursday, as per Syrian media. Shortly later, Israel's Channel 12 confirmed the bombardment. The attacks come amid a full-fledged war between Israeli forces and the Hamas Group after the latter launched surprise attacks including a barrage of thousands of rockets towards southern Israel on October 7.

Syrian media reported Israel struck two of its airports

Syrian state-affiliated news agency SANA quoted a Syrian military source as saying, "This aggression is a desperate attempt by a criminal Israeli enemy to divert attention from the crimes it is committing in Gaza and the huge losses it suffers at the hands of the Palestinian resistance, which is part of the ongoing approach to supporting extremist terrorist groups that the Syrian army is fighting in the north of the country, constituting an armed arm of the Israeli entity."

As per reports, an Iranian Mahan Air flight was scheduled to land at the time of Israeli strikes on Syrian airports. The flight was diverted back to Tehran. As per reports, the flight carried several Iranian diplomats.

The Israeli military offensives come amid the Israel Defense Forces' ongoing Operation Swords of Iron against Hamas terrorists, who launched a surprise attack on southern Israel on October 7. A bloody gunbattle is underway in Israel and Palestine with over a hundred civilians held hostage by the Hamas Group.

As per a report by The Jerusalem Post, the Israeli strikes targeted the runways at these airports and were carried out in retaliation for the alleged shells fired from the Syrian border into Israel on Tuesday night. "Some of the shells (from the Syrian border) most likely landed in open fields in Israel's Golan Heights, The Jerusalem Post quoted an Israeli military source as saying.
