Mumbai Indians' Woes in the Powerplay Continues; Leads For Most Wickets Lost in First Six Overs in IPL 2024

Mumbai Indians' Woes in the Powerplay Continues; Leads For Most Wickets Lost in First Six Overs in IPL 2024

Mumbai Indians continue to have a poor start with the bat as the five-time champions have made an unwanted record in the 2024 edition of the IPL.

Mumbai Indians might have had a decent performance with the ball against the Sunrisers Hyderabad but their batting woes particularly in the first six overs continue as they now have an unwanted stat in their name.

Chasing down a target of 174, the five-time champions endured yet another top-order collapse losing three wickets within the first five overs. Marco Jansen, Pat Cummins and Bhuvneshwar Kumar chipped in with a wicket each to get off to a flying start with the ball.

Mumbai Indians now top the charts for the side that have lost the most wickets in the powerplay in the ongoing season of the Indian Premier League 2024. The Mumbai-based franchise has lost 25 wickets in this year’s IPL.

Mumbai Indians would have certainly felt that they were in the game after a fairly decent bowling performance to restrict the explosive batting unit of SRH to just 174. Hardik Pandya and Piyush Chawla were the pick of the bowlers as they took three wickets each.

Jasprit Bumrah also chipped in with the lone wicket while giving away just 23 runs while the debutant Anshul Kamboj had a very unlucky debut to start his IPL career but managed with the wicket of Mayank Agarwal.

Despite the disastrous start to the powerplay, Suryakumar Yadav has gone on to score a scintillating half-century to keep the side in the game along with support from their best batter of the season, Tilak Varma who is out in the middle.

MI will hope that the two will be able to take the side home and regain some pride following their poor performance in the season.

A major positive not only for the MI camp but Indian cricket will be Hardik’s return to form with the ball. He has been among the wickets for the past three bowling innings which will put the Indian camp in good stead ahead of the T20 World Cup.
