Faf du Plessis Goes Past Shubman Gill In Elite List With Stunning 50 vs SRH

Faf du Plessis Goes Past Shubman Gill In Elite List With Stunning 50 vs SRH

Faf du Plessis lost his wicket on the first ball of the 10th over to Zeeshan Ansari, with Delhi at 81/1.

Star South Africa batter Faf du Plessis, who is currently playing the role of Axar Patel’s deputy at the Delhi Capitals, on Sunday, March 30 smacked a 27-ball 50 to go past Shubman Gill in the list of batters with the most runs in the Indian Premier League since 2020.

Opening for Delhi in their 163-run chase, du Plessis was at his brilliant best from the get-go and clobbered 50 runs off 27 deliveries, packed with three boundaries and three sixes, at a strike rate of 185.19.

Du Plessis lost his wicket on the first ball of the 10th over to Zeeshan Ansari, with Delhi at 81/1.

Du Plessis’ innings saw him extend his lead as the highest run-scorer in the Indian Premier League over the last five seasons, with 2798 runs in 76 knocks, ahead of second-placed Gill (2788), KL Rahul (2719), Virat Kohli (2019) in fourth and Ruturaj Gaikwad (2433) in fifth position.

In the list for most runs scored in the Indian Premier League over the last five seasons, India skipper Rohit Sharma is a distant 14th in the list, with 1738 runs in 71 knocks.

Chennai Super Kings legend MS Dhoni is nowhere near and has just managed 841 runs in 60 innings.

Du Plessis has the most 50-plus scores in the Indian Premier League over the last five seasons as well, has smacked the third most sixes and the second most boundaries.

Du Plessis is the sixth oldest player to get a fifth in the IPL at 40 years and 260 days, just behind Dhoni.

Adam Gilchrist is on top of that list, when he got his half-century at 41 years and 181 days. Du Plessis was retained by the Royal Challengers Bengaluru after IPL 2024 and joined the Delhi Capitals for his base price of Rs 2 crores.

Du Plessis’ arrival has been key for the Delhi Capitals, and his experience has been handy for new captain Axar Patel.

Du Plessis (50, 27b, 3×4, 3×6) added 81 runs with his opening partner Jake Fraser-McGurk (38, 32b) as the Capitals overhauled Hyderabad’s inadequate 163 all out in 16 overs, for their second victory on the trot.

Once Delhji openers made a quick start off the block, the result was never in doubt, but their approach was different.
