Dev Diwali 2022: Dev Diwali is the most famous festival which is celebrated with immense joy and zeal by hindus. Dev Diwali is observed on Purnima Tithi of Shukla Paksha in the month of Kartik. This festival falls after 15 days of Diwali. This year, Dev Diwali will be celebrated on November 7, 2022.

Pradosh Kaal Dev Diwali Muhurat - 05:14 PM to 07:49 PM Dev Diwali Utsav is celebrated with great pomp and show in the holy city of Varanasi. On this auspicious occasion, all Ganga Ghats are lighted with thousands of earthen diyas and people visit to offer prayers and take holy dip in Ganga river. The place is crowded with lakhs of pilgrims and they also participate in Ganga aarti.
This festival is celebrated with great zeal in Gujrat and in entire nothern part of India. In Maharashtra, Dev Diwali is observed on the first day of the month of Margashirsh. Dev Diwali is celebrated to honour the victory of Lord Shiva over the demon named ‘Tripurasur’.
As per Mythology, there was a demon named Tripura. He strictly penanced (Ghor Tapasya) in Prayagraj for one lakh years. Seeing his devotion, all living creatures and deities (Devta) got scared. So, Devtas sent nymph (Apsara) to destroy his Tapasya, but it was useless. Lord Brahama got pleased by his devotion, appeared before him and asked him for a boon.
Tripurasura wanted that he should not be killed by anyone, neither from deities nor by human. Brahma ji granted him the wish and the demon became extremely powerful and fearless and he started torturing everyone. Not only that, but he even went to Kailash to conquer it and then the battle began between the demon Tripurasura and Lord Shiva. Finally Lord Shiva killed him with the help of Lord Vishnu and Lord Brahma.
Dev Diwali 2022: Rituals
1. Lakhs of devotees visit holy places during this festival.
2. The devotees get up early on the day of Dev Diwali and perform the ‘Kartik snan’, take a holy dip in Ganga river.
2. The main ritual of Dev Diwali is the lighting of diyas after sighting the moon and this ritual is known as Deeepdaan.
3. The steps of every ghats of River Ganga, right from southernmost Ravidas Ghat to Rajghat, are illuminated with millions of diyas lit in honour of Goddess Ganga and to offer parayers to all devta (deities)
4. In the evening Ganga aarti is performed by Brahmin Priests with full devotion on the ghats of Ganga.
5. On this auspicious occasion of Dev Diwali, people decorate their houses with earthen diyas. Make Colourful designs of rangoli at their entrance.
6. In several houses in Varanasi, devoteeorganise ‘Akhand Ramayana Paath’ on a grad level and Bhog prasad is distributed later among all the other devotees.
7. In the evening, huge processions of beautifully decorated deities are taken out in Varanasi with full enthusiasm and joy.
8. The night sky is lit up with the lights of the firecrackers.
9. After completing all the Puja rituals, people organise many cultural programmes and dance programmes.
10. At some places devotees organize Jagran, Bhajan and kirtan and many people participate in that.
People are advised that they must light a diya with desi ghee along with bhog prasad (poori and halwa or sweet rice) and keep it somewhere near the house offering to Kshetrapaal. Kaal Bhairav is known as Kshetrapaal, who is the proctector, destory the evil energy from the area and keep negativity away.
