Congress is also planning to make a strong comeback in Delhi politics through municipal elections. But will you and the Congress be able to break the 15-year-old delusions of the BJP being in power in the municipal corporation, which even Sheila Dikshit and Arvind Kejriwal could not break during their immense popularity?
The Municipal Corporation of Delhi came into existence on 7th April 1985. The BJP has maintained its hold on the municipal corporation since 2007. During this, there was a Congress government from the Center to Delhi. Congress returned to the center in 2009 on the popularity of its ambitious scheme MNREGA, then Sheila Dikshit, who did better work for the poor in Delhi, managed to make a comeback with her popularity. But during his tenure as the Chief Minister in Delhi, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi elections were held twice (2007 and 2012) and both times the BJP managed to return to power.
It is alleged that Sheila Dikshit, who had failed to get hold of the Municipal Corporation, had in 2011 divided the Municipal Corporation of Delhi into three pieces (East, North and South Delhi Municipal Corporations). He thought that this would divide the power of the BJP and in some places the Congress would also be successful in coming to power. But this political gamble of Sheila Dikshit failed miserably and the BJP was able to capture the power of the three corporations again in 2012.
Even Kejriwal could not win
Arvind Kejriwal emerged in Delhi politics in 2012-14. He managed to become the Chief Minister of Delhi for the first time in 2013 with the support of the Congress. After his resignation, in the 2015 elections, the Aam Aadmi Party won 67 out of 70 seats in Delhi, winning a historic referendum. This was followed by the Delhi Municipal Corporation elections in 2017. The Aam Aadmi Party, riding on the chariot of huge popularity, was confident that it would be able to remove the BJP from the corporation. But this dream of Kejriwal could not come true. The BJP retained its dominance in Delhi by winning 181 seats in the 2017 municipal elections.
Will BJP be successful in winning again?
Will the BJP be able to retain its power in the municipal corporation in this election? On this question, Delhi BJP spokesperson Sarika Jain told Amar Ujala that till the time of 2017 corporation elections, the reality of Arvind Kejriwal had not come in front of many people. He was at the peak of his popularity, but even after that he could not remove the BJP from the corporation. The reason for this was only that the BJP is directly connected with the people. The direct connect of the workers with the public came in handy for the party and the public sent it to power for the third time in a row.
'Teachers started drinking alcohol'
Sarika Jain alleges that now the public has become very well acquainted with the reality of Arvind Kejriwal and the politics of lies of Aam Aadmi Party. People are seeing that the reality of education which talks about health is that it is making the youth and children of Delhi drug addicts by opening liquor shops in the street. The public also saw that Arvind Kejriwal did all this only so that he could earn crores from the excise scam. He alleged that perhaps this will be the first case in the world where the Education Minister is engaged in making people drug addicts by becoming the Liquor Minister.
Kejriwal became synonymous with corruption: BJP
Sarika Jain said that Arvind Kejriwal's minister Satyendar Jain is in jail for money laundering, while his leader Tahir Hussain is in jail for rioting in Delhi and killing IB officer Ankit Sharma. Similarly, the reality of dozens of Aam Aadmi Party leaders has come to the fore. Public money is being looted by making toilets in the name of making classes in the school. The people of Delhi have also seen the real face of Arvind Kejriwal in the Delhi riots. He said that this is the reason why Aam Aadmi Party will not be able to present any challenge to BJP and BJP will be able to win once again.
