Suarez remained defiant ahead of Uruguay's match vs Ghana
By LAKSHY DREAM FOUNDATION GLOBAL NEWS Web Desk: Uruguay's Luis Suarez has remained defiant ahead of his team's match against Ghana in the FIFA World Cup 2022. Ghana and Uruguay are set to play out a decider in the FIFA World Cup 2022, which will see the winner go through to the FIFA World Cup Round of 16. The teams have bad blood between each other after what happened in the 2010 edition of the tournament, where Suarez handled the ball at the goal-line which denied Ghana a sure shot goal, which would have taken them to the semi-final of the competition.
Suarez's handling of the ball earned him a red card, but gave Uruguay another chance to remain safe. Ghana's Asamoah Gyan missed the subsequent penalty which knocked Ghana out of the competition in the quarter-finals of the tournament.
Asked about his status of 'The Devil' among Ghana football fans, Suarez said that he did not care about it.
"The Ghana player missed the penalty, not me," said Suarez before the teams meet in a decisive Group G match on Friday in this year's World Cup finals.
"I don't apologise for it," he said. "I apologise if I injure a player but I took a red card for the handball.
"It wasn't my fault because I didn't miss the penalty."
"Everyone felt bad [in 2010] but for me I just want to get to the next stage," he said. "Revenge or not, we would go with the same determination and desire to win.
"I am not looking back, I don't want to focus on the past."
Uruguay will hope that their star-studded line-up is good enough to take them through to the Round of 16 of the FIFA World Cup 2022. The team currently stands at the last position in Group H, while Ghana are second placed behind Portugal.
