Devshayani Ekadashi holds a great significance among Hindus. Dev means God and Shayan means rest or sleep, which means God sleeps or rests on Sheshnaag in Ksheer sagar (milky ocean) after this Ekadashi. Some people say that Lord Vishnu goes into Yog Nidra, a state of complete mental relaxation. Devshayani Ekadashi is also known as Hari Shayani Ekadashi. Once Lord Vishnu goes to sleep, he wakes up after four months on the day of Prabodhini Ekadashi or Dev Uthani Ekadashi and the period of four months is called Chaturmas but in the year 2023, it will be five months of period. Devshayani Ekadashi is also known as Ashadhi Ekadashi, which is famous in Maharashtra. People observe fast on this auspicious day and seek Lord Vishnu blessings by offering prayers to Lord Vishnu. It is believed that devoteesm, who offer prayers to Lord Vishnu on this propitious day, Lord Vishnu bless the devotees with desired wish fulfillments. Devshayani Ekadashi 2023: Puja Rituals
1. Devotees get up early in the morning and take a holy bath before starting puja rituals
2. Place an idol of Lord Vishnu and Shree Yantra, light a diya with pure ghee, offer yellow and red flowers.
3. Offer sweets and panchamrit (mixture of milk, curd, sugar, honey and ghee).
4. Do not forget to offer Tulsi Patra to Lord Shree Hari as without offering Tulsi Patra, puja is considered incomplete.
5. Devotees should recite Vishnu Sahastranaam.
6. It is highly auspicious to donate food to the needy and poor people.
7. Devotees break their fast on Dwadashi Tithi during Parana time.
