Israel-Hamas War LIVE: Third communications blackout hits Gaza; Israel surrounds Gaza city

Israel-Hamas War LIVE: Third communications blackout hits Gaza; Israel surrounds Gaza city

Israel continued to launch heavy attacks on Gaza as the war with Hamas entered its 30th day on Monday. Large explosions were reported from many parts of the Gaza Strip, especially in the north. The Israel Defence Forces (IDF) have indicated that they plan to send more troops to the besieged enclave in the coming hours, according to reports in the Israeli media. The IDF again asked civilians in northern Gaza to move south as they announced, "We are going to defeat Hamas", in a fresh video message.

Gaza witnessed heavy bombardment on Sunday with Israeli airstrikes hitting two refugee camps in the central Gaza Strip, killing scores of people, amid the calls for an immediate ceasefire, Hamas-run health ministry officials said.

Gaza also lost communications and internet services, in its third total outage since October 7.

Israel’s military said it had encircled Gaza City and divided the besieged coastal strip into two. “Today there is north Gaza and south Gaza,” Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari told reporters, calling it a “significant stage” in Israel’s war against the Hamas militant group ruling the enclave.

According to Israeli media, the IDF troops were expected to enter Gaza City within 48 hours.

Meanwhile, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken held a meeting with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in the occupied West Bank on Sunday as the Israel-Hamas war intensifies. The top US official assured Abbas that the US government was intensifying efforts to "ease the plight of Gaza’s civilians". He also insisted that Palestinians must have a main say in whatever comes next for the territory after the conflict.
