Rajasthan BJP leader Sandeep Dayma expelled from party over gurdwara remark
Sandeep Dayma’s remark on gurdwaras had sparked a row, with Punjab BJP leaders seeking his expulsion from the party.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday expelled Sandeep Dayma from the party over his remarks on gurdwaras at a recent rally in Rajasthan's Tijara. The development comes just days ahead of the Rajasthan Assembly election.
During a rally in Tijara on November 1, Dayma said the gurdwaras that have come up in the desert state will become "open sores" and those should be uprooted, as per a report by PTI. Dayma was seeking votes on behalf of a BJP candidate. He had made the controversial remark in the presence of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
His remark sparked a row, with BJP leaders in Punjab seeking his expulsion from the party.
Captain Amarinder Singh, who joined the BJP last year, urged the party high command to expel Dayma and initiate action against him over the hate speech.
“I urge the BJP high command to immediately expel Sandeep Dayma from the party for his hate remarks against mosques and gurdwaras. His apology serves no purpose as his remarks have already caused immense hurt to well-meaning people. Not only should he be expelled, but there must be legal action also, as nobody should be allowed to get away with a mere apology after provocative hate speeches,” Amarinder Singh said.
Following the row, Sandeep Dayma issued an apology, claiming that it was a "slip of tongue". "I wanted to say 'masjid-madrasa', but somehow said gurdwara," Dayma said in a video.
