IND vs ENG 2nd ODI: Joe Root stranded on 99 but England beat India by four wickets to level series 1-1

IND vs ENG 2nd ODI: Joe Root remained unbeaten on 99 as England registered a 4-wicket win to level the three-match series 1-1.

IND vs ENG 2nd ODI: Joe Root finished unbeaten on 99 as England defeated India by four wickets to draw the three-match ODI series 1-1. Gus Atkinson struck the winning boundary to complete the chase, leaving Root one run short of a century, though the England batter gladly settled for the victory and the series-levelling result.

Earlier, Shreyas Iyer (66) and Virat Kohli (65) laid the foundation with impressive half-centuries, but India lost their way and were bowled out for 233. Jofra Archer and Gus Atkinson picked up three wickets apiece, ensuring England kept breaking partnerships and never allowed India to build a commanding total.

Kohli batted with assurance after walking in following Shubman Gill's dismissal, finding the boundary regularly and stitching together a useful stand with Rohit Sharma. Rohit weathered an uneasy start before falling for 26. Kohli's dismissal, however, triggered a collapse as Washington Sundar, Axar Patel and Shivam Dube all departed in quick succession, leaving Iyer to hold the innings together almost single-handedly.
